A Thousand Folds

Origami Tutorials

Origami is the Japanese art of folding paper. Derived from the Japanese words ori (folding) and kami (paper), its origin is rather ambiguous as it is attributed to either China or Japan depending on the source. Later on, however, Germany began to develop its own style of origami that, upon reaching Japan, became a large influence for modern origami.

A Thousand Folds features nineteen tutorials of origami models, both traditional and modern, that showcase the simplicity and complexity of the art of folding paper. If you have not practiced origami before, checking the Folds page under the Bases tab is highly recommended. It includes pictures showing the many types of folds used in origami such as the sink fold, the petal fold, and the rabbit ear fold.
